Yup. I'm guilty. There, I said it. What am I guilty of, exactly, you ask? Hi. My name is Jeremy. (Hi, Jeremy). And I'm a seasonal drinker. Allow me to explain.
I'm an old, grizzled brewer. And I've tried a lot of different beers over the course of many, many years. Lots of different, unique flavors, for sure. But my actual preferences for a beer aren't always lined up to one particular style. Now, your mileage might vary. But, as for me, I ask myself a few questions before picking a beer. Where am I? What am I doing? What time of year is it?
I don't just drink IPAs. I don't just drink Belgians. I had to think awhile to determine why that is. And what I came up with is that my choices are usually based upon set and setting. In the summertime and while outside, I would be more inclined to be drinking a crisp Pilsner or a Hefewiezen than say a Baltic Porter or a Belgian Quad. I would save the latter for the cold, winter months. That makes a lot of sense to me.
I'll gravitate towards lighter and more refreshing styles during the warmer months and more robust, higher alcohol styles for the colder months. A nice Pale Ale or IPA in the springtime? Absolutely! And Octoberfest Marzen or an ESB in the fall? For sure! For me, it's seasonal.
As a brewery, here at NoCoast, it's our job to help to make these choices easier for y'all and to lean into the seasons by making beers that you folks seem to gravitate towards given YOUR current sets and settings.
Take for instance right now. We're all gearing up for the upcoming holiday season. Hopefully you'll be celebrating good times with your friends and families. Us too! To that end, we've been releasing beers to compliment these seasonal celebrations and the colder Autumn and Winter months.
Thanksgiving time? Turn to Pecan Sticky Bun or Fruit Patch Orange Cranberry Sour to pair alongside your turkey and all the fixins! Maybe raise your glass and toast the Winter holidays with a Gingerbread FestiveAle!
All of that said, we like to make beers that are good to drink any time, too. Heritage Amber Lager and Midwest IPA have their place as well, and are available year 'round. And if you've got a hankerin' for a hop bomb...Shoreless Echoes is always around to help you get your hop fix!
So... how do YOU choose what beer you're going to buy? Are you a seasonal drinker, too? If yes...don't worry. It's a good thing! If not. That's okay, too! We've got 'cha covered!
